The forest ecosystems, as an essential part of the biosphere, play a significant role in maintaining the balance of nature. The forests preserve the natural biodiversity and provide habitat of numerous animal and plant species, fungi and microorganisms. The forests contribute for soil fertility, prevent erosion and landslides. They regulate air currents. They are involved in the hydrologic cycle and reduce the risk of floods. The forests purify the air by absorbing the atmospheric CO2, reduce the greenhouse effect and mitigate the climate changes.
The wildfires are colossal and destructive disaster. They can cause serious and often irreversible damages to the forest ecosystems, reduce the number of biological species, disturb the balance of nature and change the Earth’s climate.
During the dry and warm months of the summer, when hot and strong winds are blowing, the threat of fires dramatically increases. A newly emerged fire, either by human negligence or by high temperatures, can grow up with 2 km/h.

Wildfires detection

In those extreme conditions a small fire can grow into a giant disaster and real catastrophe, if not overcome within half to one hour. The chronicles point out that after the specified time is too late, and the made efforts are enormous. The world economy tolerated incessant heavy blows. Human life is lost. The only effective method for minimizing the damages from the wildfires is their initial stage detection and the rapid reaction for their suppression.

The smoke is one of the first visible signs of fire and therefore it is a prime target for surveillance and detection. The smoke can be seen at great distances. If there is a smoke, there is a fire. Except this is possible during the day. But what happens with the fires occurred when it is dark? The radiated from the hearth of the fire IR thermal energy also is the prime target for detection.

Combining these two main methods – detection of smoke and IR, OPTIX Automated Remote identiFIRE system successfully detects the fire in its early stage and contributes for its immediate suppression.

WILDFIRE DETECTION RANGES

Fire size

Detection range*

1 m x 1 m

0.8 km

2 m x 2 m

1.6 km

3 m x 3 m

2.3 km

6 m x 6 m

4.7 km

24 m x 24 m

19 km

40 m x 40 m

*Distances are calculated based on geometrical values and do not take into account atmospheric conditions.

The detection range is strongly affected by the meteorological, the atmospheric and the geographical conditions!

Key characteristics

  • OPTIX Automated Remote identiFIRE detects wildfires at their initial stage of development;
  • OPTIX Automated Remote identiFIRE combines thermographic functions and detection of smoke, using specially elaborated OPTIX cameras and the specialized software OPTIX intelliART, which grants greater efficiency;
  • OPTIX Automated Remote identiFIRE provides great efficiency in hilly, mountain and alpine conditions;
  • OPTIX Automated Remote identiFIRE suppress non-fire effects, like particles in the air, sun reflections, vehicles, birds in flight, etc. in order to minimize the number of alarm situations but still assuring high reliability;
  • OPTIX Automated Remote identiFIRE specifies the location of the wildfire using a laser range finder (LRF) included as a part of the tower‘s multi-sensor module. OPTIX strongly recommends the integration of GIS for greater accuracy;
  • OPTIX Automated Remote identiFIRE receive actual meteorological data (wind direction and speed, humidity, temperature, etc.) from the integrated in the system local weather station which is important for organization of the fire-fighting teams and the activities for the suppression of the disaster.

REMOTE CONTROLLED MULTICOPTER SYSTEMS

HawkIR Series

Joint development by OPTIX JSC and Unmanned Inquiries Ltd. With their help and by means of the incorporated special thermographic camera with video surveillance functions additional information about the size of the disaster, the geographic characteristics and the possible access paths to the place can be achieved. The collected data supports in the most effective way the professional teams fighting the disaster.
